Services set for retired painter Sanford Self

Funeral services for Sanford Self, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 20,2026 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. The Rev. Nathan Scoggins and the Rev. Nathan Thornton will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:00 A.M.

Sanford Self was truly one of a kind, a man with a personality all his own, many interests, and a lifetime of stories that will long be remembered by those who knew and loved him. Family, hard work, automobiles, health, and the Word of God were all meaningful parts of his life.

Sanford passed from this life on August 15, 2026, in West Monroe, Louisiana, surrounded by the presence of the Lord and the love of his family. He was born December 30, 1944, in Fullerton, Louisiana, to Jehu Traver Self and Bertha Lee Moore Self.

Sanford was a professional painter by trade and took great pride in his work. In his younger years, he enjoyed motorcycles and later enjoyed buying and selling automobiles and recreational vehicles.

Anyone who knew Sanford also knew of his strong interest in holistic health and natural approaches to wellness. He studied the things that interested him and applied what he believed would be beneficial to his health and well-being.

Sanford had a genuine respect and love for the Word of God. He especially enjoyed the worship experience at church and anointed preaching. He was a member of Apostolic Restoration Church of West Monroe, commonly known as ARC, under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Nathan Thornton.

Sanford was preceded in death by three of his children, Selena Self DeHart, Deondra Self, and Lil’ Sanford Self II; his parents, Jehu Traver Self and Bertha Lee Moore Self; his sisters, Beatrice Brister, Gertrude Powell, Gladys Deramus, and Travis Powell; and his brothers, Curtis Self, Gethren Self, Chris Self, T. C. “Pete” Self, Curvin Self, Jehu Self, and John Edward Self.

He is survived by his children, Felecia Self Rivera-Roacha and John Traver Self and wife, Amber, along with his 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and many friends who loved him and will cherish the memories they shared with him.
