Pride is a dangerous place to reside

“…All those who walk in pride he is able to humble.” (Daniel 4:37b NIV)

Dear Hearts,

Above all, one thing we must not do in this Christian walk is forget that God is in total control. We must always remember what He has done for us. When we forget to praise, exalt, and honor the King of Heaven, ultimately, abasement is sure to follow.

A very interesting read is found in Daniel chapter 4, where King Nebuchadnezzar was lifted up in pride and arrogance and failed to give honor to God. Because of this, God used Daniel to interpret a dream that Nebuchadnezzar had. Daniel explained that he would be driven away from people and would live with the wild animals. He would eat grass like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven times would pass by until he acknowledged “that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes” (Daniel 4:25 NIV).

Additionally, the dream was fulfilled, and Nebuchadnezzar experienced exactly what Daniel had interpreted for seven years. Then, in the seventh year, the Bible declares, “At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever” (Daniel 4:34 NIV).

Sadly, there are those who never give honor to God for who He is and for what He does in their lives. They refuse or neglect to give Him glory. They become lifted up with pride and carry themselves with an egotistical attitude, thinking they are above everyone else and perhaps even above God. My friends, this is a dangerous place in which to reside.

Nebuchadnezzar was a powerful king. He was a selfish ruler and a bully who possessed great power, but his pride caused him to forget who was really in control. God allowed him to experience seven years of humiliation before restoring him to his throne. Through it all, God showed Nebuchadnezzar who was truly in control.

It is important to realize that there is nothing we can do without God. The very breath we breathe comes from Him. Everything we have comes from Him. Every blessing, every opportunity, every victory, and every day we live is because of His grace. In fact, He alone deserves the honor, the glory, and the praise.

Make a note of this…”Uncontrolled pride is self destructive”. It can cause us to forget the One who gave us everything in the first place. Never become so lifted up that you forget where your help comes from.

“Pride is a dangerous place to reside.” But when we humble ourselves before God, we find that He is able to restore, renew, and bless us again.

Thank You, Father!
