Mother arrested after 2-year-old tested positive for cocaine at hospital

A local woman was arrested Sunday morning after her 2-year-old child was brought to the hospital and tested positive for cocaine, according to court documents filed by the Monroe Police Department.

Shalandra Rose Jenkins, 39, was taken into custody shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Cpl. Anthony Walker responded to a local medical facility regarding a report of a 2-year-old child testing positive for cocaine.

Upon arrival, medical personnel informed the officer that both the toddler and Jenkins had tested positive for cocaine. Medical staff noted that Jenkins also tested positive for methamphetamine and THC.

During questioning after being read her Miranda rights, Jenkins told police that her daughter had been staying at the grandmother’s house since the morning of Saturday, August 1. Jenkins stated that in the middle of the night, the child began “acting strange” and vomiting. Ambulance personnel (AAS) were called to transport them to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Following the investigation at the hospital, Jenkins was placed under arrest and transported to the Ouachita Correctional Center (OCC). The 2-year-old child was released into the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
