GSU Vice President Penya M. Moses selected as Judge for Region 7 National Moot Court Competition

Grambling, La.- Grambling State University announces that Penya M. Moses, JD, LL.M., Vice President for Administration & Business Affairs, has been selected to serve as a judge for the preliminary rounds of the Region 7 National Moot Court Competition—a premier event that showcases the nation’s most promising law students and their advocacy skills.

An accomplished attorney and strategist, Moses brings nearly three decades of legal experience to the judging panel, including service as Second Assistant District Attorney, City Attorney for New Orleans, and higher education executive. Her selection reflects the caliber of leadership within Grambling State’s administration and the university’s expanding influence in legal, governmental, and justice-focused disciplines.

“Supporting the development of future advocates is both an honor and a responsibility,” Moses said. “Moot court competitions sharpen critical thinking, elevate professionalism, and prepare students to lead in courtrooms, boardrooms, public service, and beyond.”

Moses’ participation complements Grambling State’s strong academic foundation in justice and public service. The university is home to Louisiana’s first Ph.D. in Criminology and Justice Administration, approved by the Louisiana Board of Regents in 2021, and offers one of the state’s top-ranked undergraduate and master’s programs in Criminal Justice. GSU recently added a degree in Governmental and Administrative Affairs, designed to prepare graduates for impactful careers in public administration, policy, and civic leadership.

“The involvement of leaders like Vice President Moses reinforces the real-world relevance of our academic programs,” said President Martin Lemelle, Jr. “Her extensive prosecutorial, governmental, and administrative experience mirrors the pathways many of our students aspire to pursue. Her service at the Region 7 Moot Court Competition further amplifies GSU’s growing reputation in justice-centered education.”

The Region 7 Moot Court Competition convenes top law schools from Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, and neighboring states to test students’ written and oral arguments on complex legal issues. Judges play a critical role in assessing performance, mentoring participants, and elevating the competition’s rigor and impact.

Grambling State University congratulates Vice President Moses on this distinguished selection and acknowledges her continued example of leadership, excellence, and service that reflect the values of the institution.
