Scripture: A messenger came and told David, “The hearts of the people of Israel are with Absalom.” Then David said to all of his officials who were with him in Jerusalem, “Come! We must flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. We must leave immediately, or he will move quickly to overtake us an bring ruin on us and put the city to the sword.” The kings official answered him, “Your servants are ready to do whatever our lord the king chooses” (2 Samuel 15: 13-15).
My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
An act of obedience is to follow the instructions of our KING, which is in heaven. Interestingly, we forfeit peace, joy and an abundance of life because we chose to do the opposite of what God has instructed us to do. Our KING is specific in His instructions when He tells us to go in the direction in which He desires for us. However, in some cases many travel in the opposite direction until they discover that they are alone on their journey.
God has given us a perfect road map (the Bible), which is designed to teach us principles of living. So, why is it that we chose to follow the directions of others rather than follow the instructions God has given us? In fact, we would rather listen and adhere to others’ doctrine or Theology instead of adhering to God’s truth-His Word.
God tells us in His Word to repent, yet we sink deeper in sin. He instructs us to forgive, but instead, some walk around individuals hating them on the inside, while faking a smile on the outside.
While reading the Book of 2 Samuel, God illuminated the aforementioned Biblical text, referencing David’s son, Absalom, who had conspired against His father with the idea to become the judge (2 Sam 15). Earlier in chapter 12, God had warned David, through Nathan, that the sword would remain in his house because of his sin with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband, Uriah the Hittite.
In continuation of the text, David is preparing to flee from his son, Absalom in order to escape his son’s wrath. When David told his servants, his plan to escape and move quickly, the officials, who referred to themselves as servants, were ready to do whatever the king instructed them to do. Are you ready to do what our KING has instructed us to do? Are you ready to move at God’s command? If so, adhere to His Word and do what He says-love, forgive, repent from sin, fast and pray, go ye therefore, etc.
