Dear Hearts,
There are times in life when we need reassurance that God is walking with us-assurance that He understands what we are going through and is ready to lend a helping hand.
While praying during altar prayer at my church on Sunday morning, as I knelt seeking God’s guidance in a situation, my special needs niece, Tonya, came beside me and held my hand. In that moment, I knew God was right there with me. As tears filled my eyes, I felt His presence, knowing that He was listening, praying for me, and praying with me.
I am reminded of a song that my former pastor, the late Rev. Herman E. Harris, who was my pastor during my childhood, used to sing. That song is “Someone Who Cares”. Many of you may be familiar with this song, but for clarity, the lyrics are as follows: “Someone who cares, someone who shares all your troubles like no other friends can do. He’ll come down from the skies and wipe the tears from your eyes. You are His child, and He cares for you.” As a young person, I did not fully grasp the meaning behind the idea that “Jesus would come down from the sky and wipe the tears from your eyes.” I remember thinking quite literally that Jesus Himself would descend and physically wipe away our tears. However, as I grew older, I came to understand that Jesus works through people-His hands and feet on earth-to lift up those who are downtrodden and provide comfort.
Therefore, when my niece came beside me during that prayer and held my hand, it felt as though Jesus Himself had reached out and was holding my hand, assuring me that everything would be alright. In that moment, I realized that God often uses the loving actions of others to bring His peace and reassurance into our lives. Through the kindness of my niece, I experienced the very presence of Christ in a tangible way, reminding me that we are never alone in our struggles.
Unquestionably, if I were to pen a song titled, “When Jesus Reaches Out to Hold Your Hand, my song would convey this: “Comfort and joy comes, when Jesus reaches out to hold your hand. Warmth and security are felt most, when Jesus reaches out to hold your hand. A frown becomes a smile, when Jesus reaches out to hold your hand. When Jesus reaches out to hold your hand, you are embraced by his love. He is always by your side comforting you through your rising tide. Even in the silence of your tears and the quietness of your prayers, Jesus is near. “When Jesus reaches out to hold your hand…”
Jesus-Our Everlasting, Eternal and Endless Savior!!
