Info packet sparks speculation about next Fire Chief

As of Wednesday, Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis has not appointed a fire chief for the City of Monroe, but a packet of information delivered to several council members in the last week with background information about only one of 17 applicants has sparked speculation about his next potential choice.

Several Monroe City Council members recently received hand-delivered packets containing information about Timothy Williams as a possible nominee for the position.

Williams, who currently serves as the fire chief of the Town of Bastrop, a position he has held since June 1, 2022, was the top scorer on the Civil Service Board Chief’s exam in August 2024, achieving a grade of 95 out of 100 among 17 applicants.
