Put on your thinking cap

By Rusty Potter

We have all heard the phrase – “Put on your thinking cap.” It’s usually said when someone wants us to slow down, focus, and use our brain to figure something out. But have you ever stopped to appreciate what that phrase means?

Each one of us – no matter where we’re from, what we’ve been through, or what our report card said back in school – has something great sitting between our ears. The human brain is the most powerful computer on Earth. And the best part? You already own one. It’s yours. It came factory-installed the day you were born.

Your brain contains about 86 billion neurons, all working together in a network more complex than anything ever built by human hands. It can store more information than a supercomputer, make lightning-fast decisions, solve problems, and dreams, create, plan, imagine, and learn. It’s not just a tool – it’s the engine behind every dream you’ve ever had and every goal you’ve ever reached.
And yet, too many people go through life never fully tapping into this great gift.

Here’s the truth: You don’t need to wait for permission to be smart. You don’t need someone else to validate your ideas before you begin building them. The same brain that powered Einstein, Steve Jobs, and Maya Angelou – that same style of brain – is sitting in your head right now, waiting to be put to work by you.

It doesn’t matter if you’re nine or ninety, if you drive a school bus, run a business, or a student. What matters is that you believe in the strength and capability of your mind. Every solution you seek, every breakthrough you crave, every dream you’re chasing – it all starts when you decide to put on your thinking cap.

Putting on your thinking cap means tuning out distractions and tuning in to possibilities. It means asking questions, trying new approaches, and not being afraid to fail. It means reading, listening, focusing, and learning from every mistake. It means waking up in the morning and saying, “Today, I’m going to use what I have to create something better.”

You don’t need a cape to be powerful. You need a commitment to think. To ask “Why not me?” and then get to work using your greatest asset – your mind.

So, today I challenge you: Put on your thinking cap. Don’t waste the brilliance that God placed inside of you. Your brain is not your backup plan – it’s your launch pad. Your brain is not broken – it’s built to win.
Whatever challenge you’re been pushing to the side, it’s time to bring it back to the front. You’re smarter than Yesterday. You’re wiser than you think. And your best days are still ahead.

Use your mind. Activate your power. And remember – when you put on your thinking cap, there’s nothing you can’t do.
