Monroe, LA-Renewal, Inc., along with other partners, sponsored a 2-day, 1st Time Homebuyer Workshop on October 12 and October 19, 2019. The training concluded with 27 participants in attendance and 24 graduating from the course. The event was held at The Lighthouse Church, 513 Sunnyside Dr. in Monroe; Bishop Alvin B. Walker, pastor. Potential homebuyers enjoyed learning about the mortgage process, shopping for a home, determining how much they can afford, and strategies for improving your credit. The informative course was facilitated by Sonya Jacobs and Ericka Kelly. Guest speakers for the event included the Marlon Owens of Ouachita Valley Credit Union and Dennis Hughes, a recent graduate of the course who just purchased his 1st home. Additional support for the event was obtained from The Lighthouse Church, Origin Bank, Ouachita Valley Credit Union, Capital One Bank, and Ouachita Enterprise Corporation.
