Monroe, LA-Renewal, Inc., along with other community partners, sponsored a 2-day, 1st Time Homebuyer Workshop on February 29 and March 7, 2020. The free training concluded with 28 participants in attendance and 23 graduating from the course. The event was held at The Lighthouse Church, 513 Sunnyside Dr. in Monroe; Bishop Alvin B. Walker, pastor.
Renewal’s Homeownership Program has been operating for over 20 years and has helped numerous families obtain the goal of homeownership. The educational class provides an overview of the mortgage process, breaks down the importance of credit, identifies how much each participant can afford, and much more. Guest speakers for the event included mortgage bankers Amanda Ragan and Sharon Mathews as well as bank branch manager Marlon Owens. Realtor Lakesha January of Vanguard Realty was also on hand to provide information on how to obtain the right realtor for you.
Support for the event was obtained from The Lighthouse Church, the Renewal, Inc. Board Members, Origin Bank, Ouachita Valley Credit Union, Capital One Bank, Ouachita Enterprise Corporation, and community volunteers.
Renewal, Inc. continues to be an active force in Northeast Louisiana for low to moderate income families.
