Jamie Mayo resigns as head of OIC

Former Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo has officially resigned from his longtime leadership role with the local Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) program, marking the end of a pivotal era for the community organization.

Mayo has stepped down both as the head of the program and as a member of the OIC board of directors, concluding more than 30 years of continuous service.

For over three decades, Mayo has been a cornerstone of the OIC’s operations, serving as the board’s President for the majority of his tenure. His leadership was defined by significant growth and a deep commitment to the program’s mission of providing workforce training and community development.

Throughout his 30-plus years on the board, Mayo championed major initiatives that transformed the organization’s reach:
Regional Expansion: Mayo successfully oversaw the OIC’s strategic expansion into Richwood, widening the program’s impact and footprint in Northeast Louisiana.

Property Acquisition: Most recently, he spearheaded the organization’s acquisition of the historic, old Martin Luther King School from the city school system, securing a vital asset for the OIC’s future initiatives. A $500,000 for OIC has been approved by the legislature and may be signed by the governor next week.

Mayo’s advocacy for the OIC extended well into his political career. During his nearly 19-year tenure as the Mayor of Monroe, he utilized his platform to champion the organization’s stability. Under his administration, Mayo ensured that the City of Monroe maintained unwavering support for the OIC, while consistently securing a steady stream of state allocations to keep the program funded and operational.

With his resignation from both his executive role and his seat on the board of directors, the OIC faces a transition period as it looks to build upon the expansive foundation laid by Mayo over the past three decades.
