Scripture: And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment; And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment (Luke 8:36-38 KJV).
Dear Hearts,
I greet you in the only name that matters. That name is Jesus, the Christ-our everlasting, eternal and endless Savior. Blessings to you today and forever more!
Marjorie Holmes wrote a book of prayers, titled, “I’ve Got to talk to Somebody, God.” She laid her struggles and concerns at the feet of God. In her conversations with God, she spoke to Him about her unhappiness, worries, how she felt inadequate, defeated and afraid. In other words, she poured out her heart to the only One who cared to listen. She shared in her ‘prayer book’ that although she wanted to run in the streets and yell, “Stop somebody and listen,” nobody would pause and listen. She penned this statement, “Even those closest to me are so busy, so absorbed in their own concerns and will not listen.”
Have you ever been in a place of despair, and you needed someone to listen to? Your only requirement of the listener was to lend an ear and listen to your concerns. The listener merely needed to listen with an understanding ear while sitting privately without judging or criticizing even if they are awestruck from your confessions.
In our aforementioned Text, one lesson that we can learn from the alabaster box woman, who, in the presence of Jesus, washed, wiped, kissed, and anointed His feet with her tears and hair. Luke revealed to us that there was no exchange of words. However, the woman’s silent action spoke volume as she ministered to Jesus. Perhaps, she had something to say to Jesus, but she allowed her actions to reveal the posture of her heart. Nevertheless, Jesus already knew the unspoken words and allowed her to minister to Him in her own special way.
Undoubtedly, the alabaster box woman needed to talk to someone and knew that Jesus was the One who would listen even if it was in the form of anointing His feet. Although she was a sinner, her actions portrayed that she rested in our Savior’s ability to understand her struggles and past sins.
