During this year’s Black History celebration, Turning Point Ministries welcomed Marshal Robert Cherry of the Monroe City Marshal’s Office as the 2026 Black History speaker. His message was heartfelt, powerful, and timely – especially for the young people in attendance.
Marshal Cherry reminded the congregation that “a price has been paid for what we enjoy today.” He emphasized that the freedom, opportunities, and advancements we now experience did not come without sacrifice. He encouraged everyone, particularly the youth, to honor that legacy by planting good seeds in the community – seeds of kindness, service, and leadership.
He spoke about the importance of passing down knowledge and wisdom to the next generation. His words challenged adults to mentor and young people to listen, learn, and grow.
He urged young people to choose purpose over pressure, especially when facing confrontation. Instead of reacting in anger, he encouraged them to walk away, pray, and protect their future.
As Turning Point Ministries continues to celebrate black History, the message remains clear: We honor the past, we invest in the present, and we build the future – because we have come this far by faith.
