Throwing in the towel is not an option

By Lisa Wilmore

Dearly Beloved,

This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it! Thanks to the Almighty God for our Everlasting, Eternal and Endless Savior, Jesus the Christ. Awesome blessings to you today and forevermore.
As I recall some years ago, as superintendent of public schools, the task was by far the hardest task that I had to endure in my life. I truly thank God for the people and the students during that time, but it was more than the human mind could endure for a “long” period of time. So, after my 5th year, I considered all of my options with one being “throwing in the towel”. Well, I did just that: I threw in the towel. Thank God for giving me other options while continuing to bless me thereafter.

Interestingly, we all have stories where we have either wanted to give up or throw in the towel. Have you reached a point in your life where you have wanted to just “quit” this walk of life? The walk to love the unlovable; the walk to “turn the other cheek”; the walk to bless those who curse you; the walk to be kind to those who are mean and disrespectable to you? (etc.) If so, I want to remind you of God’s Holy Word according to Isaiah 41:10. Isaiah pointed out to the children of Israel to “Fear not, I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous hand.” Even though you may want to throw in the towel, just know that God’s righteous hand is keeping you.

As a point of reference, have you ever witnessed a fight when one contender is receiving such a punching until the coach or trainer throws in the towel? In essence, the trainer observes where the contender has received all that he or she could take. The trainer throws in the towel and the fight stops. The judges ring the bell, and the fight is over. Interestingly, a believer and doer of Jesus Christ does not have this option. The option of throwing in the towel is not on the table. We must continue to” fight the good fight” and journey through as God upholds us with His righteous hand.

Undoubtedly, when Jesus looked in the cup and saw the agony that He would endure, He wanted to throw in the towel. He prayed three times to the Father and said, “Let this cup pass from Me.” (Matthew 26). However, He continued to follow the will of the Father who sent Him. This is, most definitely, our example to follow. No matter how bad it gets, “Throwing in the towel is not an option.”

Jesus Saves!
