Services for Herman Amphy were held on Saturday, February 3, at McFarland Funeral Chapel, marking the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Mr. Amphy, who left us at the age of 72 on January 25, 2024, was celebrated in a ceremony that reflected the depth of love and respect that his family, friends, and community held for him.
Herman Lee Amphy was a native of Alto, Louisiana, born on March 6, 1951, to the late Dennis Amphy, Sr., and Janie Mae Loinchester. From an early age, Herman demonstrated a profound faith and dedication to his community, accepting Christ as his Savior and becoming an active member of Gaines Chapel Baptist Church under the guidance of Reverend Larry Tillman. His commitment to his faith and community set a strong example for all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Herman faced the loss of many loved ones, including his parents, brothers Bobbie Amphy and Dennise Amphy, Jr., and sisters Gloria Rice, Rose M. Williams, Marie Tippett, and Micky Amphy. Despite these losses, Herman’s spirit remained unbroken, and he continued to live a life filled with love, generosity, and kindness.
Herman’s legacy is carried on by his wife of many years, Barbara Wilson Amphy, and his children: Herman Amphy Jr. (Lafayette), Jamie Wilson (Monroe), Oneal Wilson (Monroe), A’Dream Whitlow Williams (Larry Williams) of Las Vegas, Estell Wilson (Monroe), and Stella Wilson Humphrey (Helton Humphrey) of Monroe, Louisiana. His life was further enriched by the joy of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
