Saturday services set for “Pete” Smith

Funeral services for a well known Carroll Alumni, “Pete” Smith will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021.

Services for Robert “Pete” Smith will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Greater Flowery Mount Baptist Church. Smith, affectionately known as “Pete” was a member of the Carroll High School High School class of 67.

Visitation will be Friday, July 16th from 5 to 8 p.m. at McFarland Funeral Home.

His official obituary reads:

Robert “Pete” Smith was born on October 24, 1949, to the late Emily Smith and John D. Holland in Monroe, Louisiana.
Pete graduated from Carroll High School in 1967. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army.
He was a member of the Saint Timothy Baptist Church in his early childhood years under the leadership of Pastor F. J. Jackson.

Preceding Pete in death is his son, Malacra O’Yah Smith (Nakita); and his siblings, Samuel McClain, JoAnn Galbert (Archie), Leanna Johnson (Joe), and Roosevelt Pine.

He is survived by his children, Darongel Smith, Zayereon Smith, Yushelia Smith-Reed (Charles), Quateadra Smith, and Latronia Moore (Sam); three brothers, Alford Cherry (Cathy), Robert Cherry, Jr. (Patricia), and Ernest Cherry, all of Monroe, Louisiana; six sisters, Rowena Cherry, Margaret Cherry, Rosie Eldrige (LC), Shirley Ross (Andre), Seretha Berry (Darryl), all of Monroe, Louisiana; and Senttenia Miller of Chicago, Illinois; and a very special friend, Shirley Coleman.
