Police are investigating a murder in Monroe and an attempted murder in West Monroe, keeping both the Monroe and West Monroe police busy.
West Monroe Police have arrested 23-year-old Dandre Boatner on charges of attempted murder in a fight over a girl. Police records show that officers were dispatched to 308 Coleman Avenue and questioned Boatner who told them that there was a fight. He said after the fight started a group of people moved to a grassy area and continued fighting.
Boatner reportedly told police that he had a 9mm pistol and fired it into the air to scare the victim who squabbled with Boatner over a girl.
Reportedly, Boatner fired a shot toward the victim’s head, not in the air as he said. That claim was verified by surveillance video. Boatner missed his shot and was arrested after. The gun was stolen.
In Monroe, police were investigating the death of a man found deceased in the areas of North 19th and Flynn Street.
The name of the victim was not immediately released.
The case is under investigation.
