8,538 early votes were cast in Ouachita Parish for the May 16 election for the US Senate and House candidates, amendments, and Monroe City 2 tax propositions. The demographics voting consisted of 5,242 whites, 3,096 blacks, and 200 others. I am asking City of Monroe voters to SUPPORT the 2 tax propositions RENEWALS that have supported the Monroe city schools for 59 years. Our children, educators, and facilities cannot afford to lose $90 million dollars over the next 10 years if defeated. Sources are saying that some voters are in opposition because of the refusal by the school board to allow Neville to become a Charter School. The Monroe Chamber of Commerce are aligned with the Northside businesses and residents and refuses to support these RENEWALS. The Free Press is advocating to vote against the propositions and bring back a new version in November.
If the 2 tax propositions fail, any changes done to it cannot be brought back as Renewals It would be NEW or REDEDICATED taxes, which would be very difficult to pass. Let’s not be fooled by the opposition. These RENEWALS are essential to be passed, and our Monroe school system, which consists of 85% Black children, will continue to be rewarded with quality surroundings.
VOTE YES on Saturday, May 16, for the 2 tax RENEWALS. Let’s show President Donald Trump and Gov. Jeff Landry that WE are the voices in Monroe, LA. The positive results will prayerfully help our children and parents to Love where we Live and Live where we Love!
