Pastor Hulon Leon Benjamin, Sr., a devoted servant of God, beloved husband, father, and respected leader, was born on November 22, 1952, in Winnsboro, Louisiana, to the proud parents, George B. Benjamin and Elizabeth Jackson. He departed this life on April 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, service, and love.
Pastor Benjamin received his foundational education in the Franklin Parish School System and excelled in athletics, particularly football, at Winnsboro High School. Following graduation, he furthered his education by attending trade school and Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana.
On December 20, 1975, he was united in holy matrimony to Brendolyn Blaylock. Their union of fifty years was a beautiful testament to love, commitment, and partnership. Together, they were blessed with five children, sixteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.
Pastor Benjamin dedicated forty years of faithful service to Graphic Packaging International, where he retired as a respected foreman and supervisor. His strong work ethic and leadership were evident both on the job and in his ministry.
He was saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost in 1970 under the leadership of the late Elder Adam Nichols. Answering the call to ministry, Pastor Benjamin served faithfully in numerous roles with integrity and humility. His dedication to the Word of God led him to become a Sunday School teacher for the children s class. In 1974, he was appointed Assistant Sunday School Superintendent for the Alexandria District and also served as District Secretary in the early 1970s. From 1979 to 1989, he faithfully served as President of the Evangelist Department.
During this time, he also served as pastor of St. Joseph Church of God in Christ for two years and later as Assistant Pastor of Como Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Howard Felder from 1974 through 1989. In 1991, he became President of the Evangelist Department of the Sterlington District, later known as the Progressive Community District, under the leadership of the late Superintendent Charles A. Stevenson, Sr. He furthered his biblical training through the Urban Ministry Institute and C. H. Mason Bible College.
In August 1990, Pastor Benjamin was appointed pastor of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Rayville, Louisiana, by the late Bishop Roy L. H. Winbush. Under his visionary leadership, the church was renamed Kingdom of Heaven Worship Center, where he faithfully served as pastor until his transition.
Pastor Benjamin also served as Vice Chairman of the Pastors and Elders Council for the First Jurisdiction of Louisiana under the leadership of the late Bishop Roy L. H. Winbush and continued in that role under the leadership of Bishop James W. Proctor. He continued this role for the Louisiana Central Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under the leadership of Bishop Alton Gatlin.
He had a special passion for youth and was actively involved in the Love Alive Youth and College Ministry, where his humor, wisdom, and compassion made a lasting impression on young lives. He was a teacher, mentor, and spiritual father to many.
A man of vision and generosity, Pastor Benjamin gave faithfully to the work of the Kingdom and to his community. He founded the Annual Food and Clothes Giveaway through his church and supported numerous outreach efforts over the years. His ministry extended beyond Louisiana to Texas and California, where he conducted revivals and witnessed many souls come to Christ. Despite his many accomplishments, he remained humble, always giving God the glory.
Pastor Benjamin faithfully served in ministry for 36 years, leaving an indelible mark through his preaching, teaching, and example. He was known for his generosity, loyalty, and witty sense of humor. He never met a stranger and was a true lover of people. He often spoke of his gift of giving , faithfully supporting ministry efforts at every level. His life reflected integrity, humility, and a deep respect for leadership.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George B. Benjamin and Elizabeth Jackson; brothers, Edward Benjamin and Ronald Benjamin; sister, Jackie Johnson; granddaughter, Ebony Lewis; and godmother, Willie Mae Clay.
He leaves to cherish his memory: the love of his life, his elegant and devoted wife, Brendolyn Benjamin; children, Hulon Benjamin, Jr. (Keisha), Shawndra Benjamin, Derrick Blaylock, Kayonta Benjamin, and Shantel Benjamin; brothers, Willie Fred Benjamin, Calvin Johnson, Wayne Johnson, and Tyrone Johnson; sisters, Geraldine Hoffman (Oko), Earline Epps, Ann Benjamin, Geneva Jackson, and Sharon Johnson; mother-in-love, Mildred Williams; godchildren, James Grimes, Jr. and Donovan Charles; along with seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and the beloved Kingdom of Heaven Worship Center church family.
Pastor Hulon Leon Benjamin, Sr. leaves behind a powerful legacy of faithfulness, integrity, humility, and unwavering service to God and others. His life was a testament to the transformative power of faith, and his impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.
