His official obituary reads as follows:
George Underwood was born to the late John Henry Underwood and Cynthia Jane Underwood on January 25, 1959, in Monroe, Louisiana. He was the youngest of seven children. He met his “sweetheart” Pamela Underwood in 1976 and were married on July 28, 1979.
George was a strong man of faith, wisdom, and knowledge. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1987; since then, his passion for ministry grew stronger. He became an ordained minister under the direction of Overseer E.M. Williams and Pastor Belinda Barber at Miracle Deliverance Holiness Church in Houston, Texas. Before his ordainment and relocation to Houston Texas, he was a faithful member for 17 years at Jesus Holy Temple Non-Denominational Church (Monroe, LA) under the direction of Apostle Charlie and Pastor Irmogene Robinson. He served over the music and media ministry.
George was a hard worker and was a prime example of a good provider. In 1977, he became an employee for Glamour Pools and decided to not continue due to his entrepreneurial mindset. He then started his construction business in 1978 and was later retired by his doctor in 2012 due to medical issues. Before his retirement, he developed a successful portfolio and reputation in the in-ground swimming pool industry for the states of Louisiana and Arkansas. He was always known for his great work ethic and consistency of service; people loved him for that. (A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor than silver and gold. Proverbs 22:1)
George was a father-figure to many and was always a leader that provided support to his family, siblings, and friends. He loved to have fun! He loved to smile! He loved to sing and play his guitar! He loved to work!
George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Pamela S. Underwood [Katy, TX]; his two sons, George D. Underwood (Ono Underwood of Brentwood, CA), Demetrice Underwood (Shannon Underwood of West Monroe, LA), three daughters; Tabitha Grant (Cedric Grant of Jacksonville, FL), Bathsheba Shelton (James Shelton of Katy, TX), and Rabshakeh Underwood (Houston, TX); two godchildren, Quendala Johnson (Baton Rouge, La) and Keosha Collins (Monroe, La); his siblings, John Underwood(Jeannie of Richwood, La), Jesse James Underwood (Frankie of Baton Rouge, La), Robert Underwood (Lela of Monroe, La), Sam Underwood of Monroe, La, Josephine Baker (Thomas of Monroe, La), Mary Traylor (Luther Traylor of Monroe, La), and Emma Sanders (Monroe, La); 14 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of extended family.
