Man booked for murdering girlfriend

A Monroe man is behind bars following a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday, April 26, 2025, on Post Oak Drive. Deputies with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and discovered a female victim who had died from a gunshot wound.

Authorities identified the victim’s boyfriend, Rufus Ward, III, as a person of interest. He was taken into custody for questioning at the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he allegedly admitted to owning the firearm used in the deadly incident.

Following the interview, Ward was arrested and formally charged with Second-Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Domestic Abuse Battery.

Ward is currently being held at the Ouachita Correctional Center on a $257,000 bond.
