Scripture: Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are troubled, my liver is poured out upon the earth for the destruction of the daughter of My people; because the children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city. When they swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city when their soul was poured out into their mother’s bosom…all that passed by clapped their hands at thee: they hissed and wagged their heads…saying, is this the city that men call the perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth?…All thine enemies have opened their mouths against thee: they hiss and gnash their teeth: they say, we have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it. The LORD has done that which he has devised; He has fulfilled his word that he has commanded in the days of old: he hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: and he hath caused thine enemies to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thy adversaries’ their heart cried unto the LORD…let not the apple of thine eye cease…pour out thine heart like water before the face of the LORD: lift up thine hands toward Him for the life of thy young children that faint for hunger in the top of every street.
Behold, Oh LORD, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit and children of a span long? Shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the LORD? The young and the old lie on the ground and the streets. My virgins and young men are fallen by the sword; Thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed and not pitied. Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD’s anger none escape nor remain: those that I have swaddled and brought up hast mine enemies consumed (Lamentations 2: 11-22 KJV).
My Friends, For many years, God has continuously commissioned this writer to warn His people of His ongoing anger due to our persistent, blatant disobedience of His Holy Word. Our continuous celebrations of Mardi Gras have always been among the top listening’s of His “No No’s”. He has specifically specified in His “Ten Commandments”, Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth (Exodus 20:3-4).
And my friends, “If I shut up heaven, if there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or If I send pestilence among My people, If My people, which are called by My name shall humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:13-14)… America?????????
My friends, in our text for this message, the weeping prophet, Jeremiah is describing the results of God’s anger toward Israel’s blatant, sinful, disobedience toward His commandments. And now some of us????????????
