Granny’s Family Restaurant will be serving at the Monroe Regional Airport. The Monroe City Council finally adopted an ordinance at last night’s meeting authorizing the mayor to enter into a lease agreement with the restaurant to operate at the airport. Granny’s, owned by Carol Crymes, has operated on Louisville Ave. for the last seven years, and is now expanding to the airport.
Crymes told the Free Press that she is excited about the venture and hopes to provide a more affordable meal to travelers and locals who want to visit the airport for her tasty meals.
The restaurant will be located in the existing restaurant area located on the first floor of the main building. Crymes said the food establishment will operate seven days a week from 5:00 AM until 2:00 PM. She said that breakfast plates will be served from 5:00 AM until 10:30 AM and lunch plates will begin to be served at 10:30 AM until 2:00 PM.
The meals served at the airport will be short orders and will be served in plates, so that travelers can get in and out. Crymes said that customers can expect a Mardi Gras theme when the restaurant opens. She will serve shrimp po-boys, fish plates, gumbo and the Granny burger on her lunch plates. Customers can expect beignets, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and her two egg special on the breakfast menu. She said the meals will be very affordable at a standard $10 rate. This will include bread and a beverage.
“I’m starting out with breakfast and lunch but hopefully business will pick up and I’ll be able to offer an evening meal as well,” Crymes said.
She expects the airport restaurant to open within the next two weeks.
