Friends mourn shooting death of 16 year old honor student

A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in Monroe on Tuesday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Rashawn Sims.

According to the Monroe Police Department, Sims was shot in the 900 block of South McGuire Street at around 4:16 p.m.

No motive for the shooting has been established.

Sims was a student at Carroll High School. He was described by his teachers and friends as a bright, respectful, and kind young man.

Kiana Pollard, one of Sims’ teachers, said that he was one of her “greatest” students. “He is beyond intelligent,” she said. “I am so lost for words and numb.”

Driver’s Education teacher, Casey Tripp, described pleasant encounters with Sims, including his dream of one day seeing Paris, France, and the Eiffel Tower. Tripp said…
