Our City, Our Community

By Marie Brown

August is upon us, and those of us who are football fans can start planning for all the fall games, including high school, college,, and professional. There is absolutely nothing like sitting in the stands on Friday nights watching our favorite team.  Some of the best teams in the state are right here in Monroe and Northeast Louisiana. The halftime shows are great in seeing our young people beam with pride as their hard work in practice is being applauded by their parents and supporters.

Saturdays are filled with college teams;  Our area consists of mostly ULM, Grambling, Southern, Louisiana Tech, and LSU fans. The I-20 Classic is renewed this year after several years between ULM and Louisiana Tech. The all-time attendance record will probably be broken. The annual Bayou Classic between Grambling and Southern will meet once again in New Orleans.

Sundays are reserved for professional sports. The Saints and Cowboys are both looking to have good seasons. Will the Cowboys make it to the Super Bowl, and will the Saints make a comeback and win their division? Competitive sports enable all of us to have the opportunities to support our loved ones.  Hope to see all of you at the games, as we can rejoice and understand that sports allow us to Love where we Live and Live where we Love.
