“You will not win battles with a closed Bible”

By Lisa Wilmore

My Christian Friends,

Many people are struggling with life challenges but never open the Bible to determine what God says about their situation and how He instructs them to handle it. Yet, they go from person to person seeking advice but to no avail. In fact, after their conversations with others, they are more confused than they were before they asked for advice. Listen, whatever you need, you can find it in the Word of God. You do not have to prance from one individual to another or dial unwanted phone calls. Give God a chance, through His Word, to supply what you need.

There was a song sang and recorded many years ago titled, “Look it’s in there, right in the Word of God”. The psalmists say, “I found it all in the Word of God. If you are looking for joy, it’s in there. If you are looking for peace, it’s in there, right in the Word of God.”

If you are looking for salvation go to Acts 4:12: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. If you want to know who God is, go to Revelation 1:8: “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” If you are looking for ‘the Way’ go to John 14: “Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” If you are looking for peace got to John 16:33: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” “Whatever you need is right in the Word of God.”

A point of reference to the importance of searching the scriptures is located in Acts 17 where Paul and Silas preached to the Bereans. It was noted that the people “Received the Word with readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore, many of them believed…” (Acts 17:10-11a). Even if people give you advice or try to share what the Word of God says, always open your Bible for yourself and search the scriptures. Your way of evaluating what others have said, you must open your Bible and verify that they are speaking truth. Compare what the Bible says with what others say. “You will not win battles with a closed Bible.”

In addition to reading and studying your Bible, always pray, pray, pray…!
