Where is your hiding place when trouble comes your way?

By Lisa Wilmore

Scripture Meditation: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof… The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge (Psalm 46:1-3;11).

Where do you run when life brings forth hardships that are unbearable? Where do you hide when you are overwhelmed with problems and situations that are beyond your control? Where do you find peace and security when it feels like the walls are closing in on you, the sky appears to be falling, and the rug has been pulled from under you? In other words, where is your hiding place when trouble comes your way? If you are looking for a place of safety and security, you will only find it in God. Everything you need can be found in the WORD. Job declares, “Thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety” (Job 11:18).

Interestingly, our security will be challenged in many ways during our lives. In fact, some individuals, presently, may be victims of threatened layoffs by companies while others have actually experienced a layoff. Undoubtedly, there are situations of couples who decide to go their separate ways. Of course, this may threaten the security of one’s financial stability and status. Without a doubt, our security must NOT be built on prosperity, etc., but built on God. God is the only security we need, and He will provide a safe place for us in our time of trouble.

Psalm 46, our scripture meditation, was written by the sons of Korah, temple assistants and musicians. As psalmists, they expressed strength and refuge in God. They presented the analogy of shaking mountains and troubled waters to praise God for His protection and safety. Therefore, no matter what comes our way, we can rest in the safety of our Lord.
David, the psalmist (King of Israel) penned, “In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us” (Psalm 62:7-8).

God will always take care of us, His children. Hopefully, you have found a hiding place in Him. The place to hide and be secure is found only in God. Trust Him to be your security.
