Dear Hearts,
Blessings, beloved! I thank God for you and pray that you receive all you need to make it through this troubled world. Trust Jesus. He has already made a way!
I recall a time when a dear friend of mine was led by God’s Spirit to feed a particular community suffering from a lack of food and nourishment. She shared a story with me about a little boy and his sister that has stayed in my heart ever since. As I recall it now for this message, tears fill my eyes, because hunger continues to spread, not only across our country, but right at our own doorsteps, also. Not much has changed, and I cannot help but wonder-will it ever get better?
As mentioned, my friend was led by God to serve this community during a particularly cold and wintry season. She prepared red beans and rice, along with a simple meat dish and a sweet treat. She described how she and her team served the people that day, who were so grateful for the warm meal.
But what moved her the most was a little boy and girl, siblings, who came to the truck to receive their food. As they walked away, the little girl turned to her brother and asked, “What will we eat tomorrow?”
When my friend heard this question, it broke her heart. She immediately called the children back to the truck and gave them extra food to take home-enough to last through the next day. Even as she shared this story with me, it broke my heart as well.
This may not be your story. These may not be people you know. You may not worry about what you will eat or wear tomorrow. But for many people, we may never meet, this is their reality. And if or when such times come to our own lives, Jesus reminds us not to worry about the things we cannot control.
Those children had a reason to worry–they had not yet learned the teachings many of us have come to know and trust. They are children, and their concern is understandable.
But Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:25–34 NKJV:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?… For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Dear hearts, do not worry about tomorrow. God already has it worked out!
Jesus Saves!
