We can rest in the safety of our Lord

By Lisa Wilmore

Scripture: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge (Psalm 46:1-3;11).

Where do you run when life has dealt hardships that are unbearable? Where do you hide when you are overwhelmed with problems and situations that are beyond your control? Where do you find peace and security when it feels like the walls are closing in on you, the sky appears to be falling, and the rug has been pulled from beneath you? In other words, where is your hiding place when trouble comes your way? If you are looking for a place of security, you can find it in God. Everything you need can be found in the WORD of God. In fact, Job 11:18 declares, Thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

In this life, our security will be challenged in many ways. Some individuals have lived under conditions where companies have threatened a layoff, while others have experienced the loss of a job. There are situations where couples decide to go their separate ways which threaten the security of the families financial status as well as its stability.

Our refuge must not be centered around individuals, prosperity, or friends; however, it must be built around God. God is the only security you need, and He provides a haven for you in your time of trouble.
Psalm 46 was written by the Sons of Korah, who were temple assistants and musicians. As psalmist, they expressed strength and refuge in God. They presented the analogy of shaking mountains and troubled waters to praise God for His protection and safety.

It is wonderful to know that no matter what comes our way, we can rest in the safety of our Lord . As David, the psalmist (King of Israel) wrote, In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us (Psalm 62:7-8). God will always take care of His children. He will provide a hiding place, a peace of mind, and a place of security when we truly put our trust in Him.
