First, allow me to thank God and Rev. Roosevelt Wright, Jr. for opening doors for me on this incredible journey.
In June 2016, I began my God-given assignment of writing Christian articles for The Monroe Free Press. The very first article God gave me to share with readers was titled, “Will You Be Able to Stand?” As I recall, it was one of the most meaningful articles released during that season of my life. At the time, I had just resigned as Superintendent of the Madison Parish School District and was praying and waiting on God’s direction for my life.
Over the years, I have shared with others how God released me from the responsibility of leading a school district. I shared with them that during that time, several individuals told me they believed I would one day become the State Superintendent. In my spiritual immaturity at the time, I embraced that as a personal goal. Consequently, I felt I had to excel in everything and make every accomplishment perfect. I attended out-of-state training courses, read books to sharpen my leadership skills, and worked tirelessly to improve my craft. However, God had another plan for my life.
What I failed to do during that season was sincerely ask God what His will was for me. As a result, God allowed the pressure of the position to become overwhelming until I finally sought Him completely. When I did, He simply told me to let it go. That decision required tremendous faith because I resigned with no job and no idea where I would land next. Yet God already had a plan prepared for me.
Soon afterward, I received a call from a principal in the Lincoln Parish School District, who hired me as an assistant principal. From there, God allowed me to be placed into supervisory and director positions until retirement. More importantly, it was during that season that God birthed within me the writing ministry for The Monroe Free Press.
In addition, God connected me with Rev. Dr. Jacquelyn Simmons, whose writings and messages continue to bless the publication today. Ten years ago, she asked me to serve as a guest columnist in her place and spoke with the editor and founder and editor, Rev. Wright. Through that connection, God opened the door for this writing ministry.
Today, I remain grateful and thankful first to God for opening the door and directing my steps into this writing ministry. I am also grateful to Rev. Wright for providing the platform and for his willingness to allow me to write and share with the readers of The Monroe Free Press. I am deeply thankful for Dr. Simmons, whose mentorship and obedience to God helped position me for purpose and played a key role in opening this door in my life.
The greatest lesson I have learned throughout this journey is that while we may make plans for ourselves, God ultimately knows the path He has designed for our lives. Sometimes His direction may not make sense in the moment, but His plans are always greater than our own. When we trust Him completely, He will lead us exactly where we are meant to be.
