The Leapfrog Group awards second consecutive ‘A’ grade for Spring 2019
Monroe, La – St. Francis Medical Center was awarded an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group’s spring 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. The designation recognizes St. Francis Medical Center’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare. The hospital was also awarded an ‘A” in the fall of 2018.
“To have received this national recognition again as one of the country’s safest hospitals is a result of our entire team’s daily pursuit of excellence,” said Kristin Wolkart, President and CEO of St. Francis Medical Center. “Whether it is patient safety initiatives like using new technology to reduce falls or patient-centered rounding to involve the patient and family in the plan-of-care, our physicians and dedicated team members never stop improving and innovating on behalf of those we serve. We are extremely proud to have this recognition affirm we are doing the right things for our patients and our community.”
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
St. Francis Medical Center joins Our Lady Lourdes Regional Medical Center and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, all part of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, in being recognized with a Leapfrog ‘A’ for patient safety.
