Sometimes you have to bless yourself

By Lisa Wilmore

My Dear Friends,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ!

Almost a year ago, my daughters, a family friend and I journeyed to Jackson Mississippi where my niece resided at the time. My oldest daughter wanted to go visit and pray with my niece as she believed God was calling her to do so. My niece had been diagnosed with cancer and had been fighting the battle for seven years. When we talked to her, she always revealed her trust in God to keep and sustain her. As we visited LaCarian (Dee Dee), she encouraged us more than we encouraged her. God was truly her source of strength.

On this particular day of our visit, my daughter began to sing a worship song. While she was singing, she took some oil out of her bag and poured some in my hands. I took the oil, being obedient to what she believed God had assigned her to do and rubbed my hands together. As I was rubbing my hands together to saturate the oil in my hands, my niece, who had lost all of hair, looked at my daughter and said, I want some too . Of course, my daughter took the oil and poured it in her hand in the same manner as she had poured into mine. After she poured the oil in my niece s hand, my niece looked at the oil and then rubbed it on the front of her head. She rubbed it in a manner that she knew that whatever was next, God was in control. I was waiting for my daughter to put the oil on my niece s head as I had witnessed this done before with others. Nevertheless, my niece took the oil and Blessed herself. Her actions openly revealed to me that Sometimes you have to bless yourself . She did not wait for anyone to Bless her. She Blessed herself.

So, after my niece blessed herself, my daughter told me to read a passage of scripture. Of course, I read John 14. After such, I explained to her what Jesus meant when He answered Thomas question, Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way? Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14: 1-6 NKJV).
Fascinatingly, my niece said to me with tears in her eyes, Auntie, I believe . After we prayed and ministered to her, we left with tear-stained faces and joy in our hearts.

Sadly, two days later I received a call that my niece had transition from this life to eternal life. But she left a message for the world to know. That is, Sometimes you have to bless yourself; and always believe in the report of the Lord. Be encouraged.

Jesus Saves!
