6th Grade, Minnie Ruffin Elementary
Hello, guys; this is Roderick. This week, I will touch on the Minnie Ruffin basketball team, Mardi Gras, student profile, and Black History Month.
Minnie Ruffin Basketball Team
The Minnie Ruffin Baby Wildcats basketball team played at Marbles Community Center on Saturday, February 3, against the Robinson Rams. The score was 15-10. Minnie Ruffin had 15, and the Robinson Rams had 10. We had lots of fun playing basketball, and we also shook hands after the game was over.
Mardi Gras In Monroe
Mardi Gras is, traditionally, the day before Lent when people eat rich food and celebrate. Monroe had a Mardi Gras parade on Saturday, February 3rd. The floats in the parade were fabulous. Many children caught colorful beads. Even though it rained, it did not stop people from attending the parade.
Student Profile
Joseph Hines, born on November 5, 2010, is a sixth grader attending Minnie Ruffin Elementary School. Raised by his mother, Eselener McCoy, Joseph’s hobbies are playing video games, football, and drawing Anime. He will be graduating in the class of 2032 from Wossman High School.
Black History Month
Carter G. Woodson, the Father of Black History, came up with the concept of “Negro History Week” in 1926. In 1976, it became Black History Month. Schools and other places will have a black history program. Monroe will have a black history parade the last week in February.
