The Monroe Civic Center has a new director, Rev. Ike Byrd, pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, who stepped into the role this week.
Rev. Byrd will replace Mrs. Melissa Thaxton, who has been managing the civic center for approximately one year. Thaxton, a veteran city employee with over two decades of service, has worn many hats throughout her career, including administrative assistant to former Mayor Jamie Mayor and marketing director for the Civic Center, in addition to booking events and managing its budget.
