Own your faults-take responsibility for your mistakes

By Lisa Wilmore

Greetings, My Dear Friends!

Thank God for our Eternal, Everlasting and Endless Savior!
Have you ever blamed others when you have made mistakes? Have you tried to pawn your mishap on someone else because you were afraid of admitting that you were wrong? Interestingly, it may be easier for individuals to blame someone else for a mistake rather than take responsibility for their own faults.

As Christians, we are called to accept responsibility for our mistakes. We must not let the enemy have the upper hand by hiding behind someone else when we’re the ones at fault. Whether in private or public, we must face the truth: we are guilty of the wrong we’ve done.

In the biblical account of Adam and Eve, they too failed to take responsibility for their actions. Instead, they blamed each other-Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent. In Genesis 3, we see their response when God confronts them: “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘Where are you?’

And he said, ‘I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.’ He said, ‘Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?’ The man said, ‘The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.’ Then the Lord God said to the woman, ‘What is this that you have done?’ The woman said, ‘The serpent deceived me, and I ate.’”

Instead of owning up to their disobedience, Adam and Eve redirected blame. It is easy to justify our sins by pointing to circumstances or other people, but God sees the truth. Even if we avoid responsibility, He knows exactly what is in our hearts.

Furthermore, even though the enemy may try to shift our focus from all that God has given us to what we feel we lack, we must not fall prey to his tactics that lead us into sin and temptation. Instead, we must turn to God in prayer, asking for His strength to resist the desires that tempt us. We must consistently keep God at the center of our decision-making, seeking His guidance in all things. In fact, we should seek direction from His Word-the Bible-as we navigate through the uncertainties of life. Therefore, when we do make mistakes, we must take full responsibility for our actions, acknowledging our faults and seeking His forgiveness.
