Homecoming is a celebration where people from all walks of life come together to celebrate a series of events in churches and schools, just to name a few. Students and alumni even celebrate the entire week with parades, coronations, and football games. Such is the case where schools this time of year will make their presence felt. There is a huge economic impact locally as retail and food stores are constantly visited by locals to purchase items needed for tailgating activities.
This past weekend Wossman and Richwood football teams squared off at the Grady Jones stadium in Monroe. Because of the local heated rivalry, the stadium was packed with fans from both schools and the tailgating areas where full to capacity with various alumni groups coming together enjoying a variety of food and reconnecting by sharing their life experiences with one another.
Ironically, one topic of conversation is the political climate nationally, as well as state and locally. People are very concerned about where we are headed because of the policies that are being changed. It is refreshing to know that even at a football game, people are talking about voting in the upcoming elections. The number of people at the Wossman/Richwood game could make a tremendous difference if just half of them go to the polls to vote. It would be nice to have a tremendous homecoming if people met at the polls to celebrate making a change and vote out of office those who are taking us in the wrong direction. When that happens, we can continue to Love where we Live and Live where we Love.
