The State of Black Monroe is comparable to the State of Black America and Black Louisiana. Our democracy, civil rights, and economic advancement are under attack. Recently, Monroe Man in the Hat (Friday) bypassed the Home Rule Charter by going to the Louisiana State Legislature to get his way to hire his preferred Fire Chief. Civil rights are questionable in the City of Monroe, although there is a black population of approximately 65%. There are a few high-ranking blacks in government, business, and ULM. In fact, the new President at ULM reassigned (demoted) a black female Vice-President to the classroom and does not have a black person in her cabinet.
Louisiana will follow Texas and President Donald J. Trump’s mandate to redistrict the Congressional map! Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry will soon call for a special session and will encourage the majority Republicans in the House and Senate to support a new plan. The plan will consist of eliminating Congressman Cleo Fields minority district. Ironically, the Governor and Attorney General initially supported this plan but will not defend it. Also, it will possibly make it difficult for Congressman Troy Carter of New Orleans to win his seat in next year’s election. As a result, Louisiana will most likely go from two minority Congressional districts to none.
There is only one answer to this Madness…….VOTING!!! When that happens, we can “Love where we Live and Live where we Love”!
