New Second Baptist Church in Bastrop was filled beyond capacity Sunday, March 22, 2026, as members and visitors gathered for the church’s first-ever Family and Friends Day program.
Pastor Rev. David Campbell said the event exceeded expectations, with a standing-room-only crowd. Worshippers traveled from near and far, with some coming from as much as 100 miles away to take part in the special occasion.
The highlight of the program was the message delivered by guest speaker Roosevelt Wright Jr., retired pastor of New Tabernacle Baptist Church in Monroe. Speaking on the theme, “When family and friends get together,” Wright emphasized the importance of strong relationships rooted in faith.
Sister Shirley Lenoir is congratulated by retired judge Agnellis Reese for receiving the trophy for the highest attendance at the Family and Friends Day. There were so many people, they stopped counting.
He reminded the congregation that family and friends serve as a source of support, accountability, and spiritual encouragement. His message drew warm responses from the audience, many of whom nodded in agreement and offered words of affirmation throughout the sermon.
The program also included recognition of visitors, who were warmly welcomed by the church family. A spirit of unity and fellowship filled the sanctuary as attendees greeted one another and shared in the joy of the day.
Following the service, refreshments were served, giving guests an opportunity to connect and continue the celebration.
A special highlight came when Sister Shirley Lenoir was awarded a trophy for bringing the largest number of guests to the program, drawing applause and appreciation from the congregation.
Rev. Campbell expressed gratitude for the strong turnout and support, noting that the success of the first Family and Friends Day has set the stage for it to become an annual tradition at New Second Baptist Church
