Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo has hired former superintendent George Cannon as the new director of the Monroe Civic Center, but that appointment prompted a word of protest from the NAACP.
Cannon, who was fired as superintendent of the city schools in 2004 in the middle of a contract fraud investigation by SEC, went on to serve a term as superintendent of the Union Parish Schools.
