The upcoming Ouachita Parish NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet, set for July 20, 2024, at the Monroe Civic Center, is expected to shine a spotlight on the critical issue of crime in the community. With the theme “Courage to Stand Up Against Crime,” this year’s event promises to be both impactful and inspiring.
Rev. Ambrose Douzart, president of the local NAACP branch, has announced that the event will feature newly elected Sheriff-Elect Henry Whitehorn of Caddo Parish as the keynote speaker. Whitehorn, who recently secured his position after a contested election that ended with a court-ordered rerun, is revered for his dedication to justice and community safety.
“This year’s Freedom Fund Banquet is particularly significant,” said Rev. Douzart.
“We’re moving to the Civic Center due to Sheriff Whitehorn’s popularity and his compelling story of perseverance and commitment to law enforcement.”
