Moore names Cheryl Rogers as new Carver Principal

Carver Elementary School, one of Monroe’s most storied educational institutions, will begin the 2025 school year under new leadership. Rev. Sam Moore, III, announced this week that Cheryl Rogers has been appointed principal, marking a new chapter in the school’s celebrated history.

Rogers, a longtime member of Carver’s leadership team, is no stranger to the students, staff, or community. Her familiarity with the school’s culture and commitment to its mission made her a standout candidate for the role. She will take the reins of a campus known not only for academic excellence but also for producing generations of community leaders.

Carver has always been more than a school; it is a school that has been headed by a long line of community legends.

The elementary school, located in the heart of Monroe, has been led by a distinguished line of principals, including Dr. Lavargne Gunn-Ford, Calvin Jordan, and Dr. Phedra Brantley, each of whom left an indelible mark on the campus and went on to become legends in Monroe public education

Rogers’ appointment honors that legacy while pointing toward the future.

Rogers holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, earned in 2008. She returned to ULM in 2021 to obtain a Master of Education degree, continuing her professional development and preparing for school leadership. In 2022, she became certified as an ED1-level education leader, qualifying her to serve as a principal in the Louisiana public school system.

Carver Elementary, once known as a hub of African-American academic excellence during segregation, continues to be a pillar of strength and pride for the South Monroe community. With Rogers at the helm, many are optimistic about the school’s continued growth and the empowerment of its young learners.

“She understands our students, she knows our families, and most importantly, she believes in this community,” said Moore.

Cheryl Rogers will officially begin her duties as principal in July 2025.
