Merry Christmas

By Rusty Potter

When we say the words Merry Christmas, we often say them quickly, almost automatically.  We post them on cards, in text messages, and on social media posts.  But this Christmas season, I invite us to slow down and think about what those words mean.

To me, the word merry means happy, filled with joy, and overflowing with gladness.  It speaks of a light heart, a hopeful spirit, and a soul that is at peace. Merry Christmas – may your life be touched with peace, love, joy, and happiness.

A merry heart does not mean life is perfect.  It does not mean there have been no struggles, disappointments, or setbacks along the way.  Instead, it means that even in the middle of life’s challenges, there is still room for joy.  It means choosing hope over despair, faith over fear, and gratitude over complaints.  A merry heart finds strength not in circumstances, but in purpose.

Christmas reminds us that joy was born into a broken world.  The message of Christmas is not about flawless people or perfect situations.  It is about love showing up when it was needed most.  It is about light breaking through darkness.  That is what makes Christmas merry.  It reassures us that no matter how heavy life may feel, joy is still possible.  Merry Christmas is a reminder that kindness matters, compassion heals, and hope still lives.

Christmas is merry because it celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.  His birth was not announced in palaces or celebrated by royalty, but in a humble manger.  Yet that moment changed the world forever.  Jesus came as a gift of love, hope, and salvation.  His birth reminds us that joy can be born in unexpected places and that light can shine even in the darkest times.

As this season brings families together and reminds us of those we miss, let us remember the true reason for our joy.  Let us reflect the love of Christ by showing kindness and offering forgiveness.  Let us carry the message of hope beyond December and into the year ahead.

To the readers of Potter Motivation, I truly wish you a Merry Christmas, one centered on the joy of Jesus Christ’s birth.  May your homes be filled with peace, your hearts with love, and your lives with joy and happiness, today and always.

Merry Christmas.
