McFarland set to become council chairman next month

Bishop Rodney McFarland is poised to assume the presidency of the Monroe City Council next month, succeeding Councilwoman Juanita Woods of District 3, who served a one-year term in the role.

The transition represents part of a coordinated leadership strategy among the council’s three southside representatives. Under an agreement between the Southside councilmembers called the “Brown Bombers”, District 5 Council Member Verbon Muhammad is scheduled to serve as president in 2026, creating a rotational leadership structure for the coalition.
