During Tuesday night’s City Council meeting at Monroe City Hall, newly elected District 4 council member Rev. Rodney McFarland advocated for a significant increase in the city’s minimum wage. Rev. McFarland proposed raising the current minimum wage from $10 an hour to at least $14 an hour for all city employees.
The city’s current minimum wage of $10 an hour was implemented during the final years of the Mayo administration, but it only applies to full-time workers. Many day laborers and part-time employees in the city earn less than $10 an hour and do not receive benefits.
