Scripture: But if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him… by the word of the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (precede) them which are asleep(dead). For the Lord he shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17).
My Friends,
Last week’s message described our stop at God’s way station in order to become refreshed by showering in the Holy Spirit, soaking our feet in the blood of the lamb and eating Christ’s bread of life. We will continue to remain here until God tells us to “move on” toward our goal to become familiar with my often rocky road to become a columnist for the Monroe Free Press.
During the last few years, I, among others, have noticed that God’s laws of gravity have been somewhat changed. At one time, an object appeared to land directly from the place from which it was released, but now-days, we probably have to search for it and often find to our annoyance it has fallen quite a distance in which it ordinarily would have landed.
A few days ago, I placed a small empty water bottle on my breakfast tray which is approximately one-inch in depth. Afterwards, it rolled to the carpeted floor, and continued its journey by rolling expertly between two heavy pieces of furniture and made its way to a partly filled carton of small water bottles which was located on the floor. Without losing momentum, it bounced up on the water carton, entered a small hole on its top and finally landed upright on the bottles inside the carton. What a ride!!! No one but God could have engineered that feat and no one ever will. Praise his holy name!!!
Here is another phenomenal feat I would like to share with you: A few nights ago, while lying in bed and completing the eating of a bunch of delicious grapes, I lazily chose to throw the remaining very thick empty vines into the trash can which was located at the foot of the left side of the bed. It accurately landed in the can, but to my astonishment, immediately bounces out of the can and landed on my feet at the foot of the bed. Lord! What’s going on?
In our text for this message, God displays the use of his gravity as he has permitted us to know it, by descending from heaven and bringing with him those who are asleep in Jesus. Afterwards, the dead in Christ shall defy gravity and rise first. Those of us who are alive and remain will defy gravity also and be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and shall ever be with the Lord. Amen.
At that time, gravity will no longer matter. What will matter is being in the presence of the Lord forever and ever.
My friends remember Jesus Christ defied gravity at his resurrection. Please pray for those persons who are deliberately mistreating God’s people.
