Let it roll

By Rusty Potter

Life is full of challenges, frustrations, and unexpected setbacks. It’s easy to get caught up in these moments and become stressed, or even mad as a wet hen. But what if we approached these challenges with the grace of a duck on the water?

A duck’s feathers are uniquely designed to repel water, allowing it to glide effortlessly across the surface. Unlike chickens, whose feathers become soaked and heavy when wet, turning them into what we often call “mad as a wet hen”, ducks remain light and free, no matter how much water they encounter. This serves as a reminder of how we can live our lives.

When trouble comes your way, you have a choice: let it weigh you down like water on a chicken’s feathers, or let it roll off you like water on a duck’s back. Life will always present difficulties, but how you handle them determines your peace of mind.

The key lies in not taking everything too seriously, Some things in life aren’t worth getting upset over, so ask yourself, “Is this worth my peace? If the answer is no, let it roll off your back. This doesn’t mean ignoring problems or not being responsible; it means keeping perspective and not letting every setback disrupt your peace.

Life is too short to carry unnecessary burdens. Learn to embrace the duck’s perspective. Keep your feathers sleek and strong, ready to repel whatever comes your way. By letting go of the small stuff, you free yourself to focus on what truly matters.

Remember, you have the power to decide what will affect you. Choose to let it roll, and you’ll find yourself gliding through life with a calm and steady spirit, instead of flapping around mad as a wet hen.
