My Dear Friends,
It is always a blessing and a privilege to share with you what has been placed in my heart.
Amazingly, God positions people, thoughts, and even events to help enlighten us on His awesomeness. In fact, I believe that He positioned a gentleman in my path not just once, but twice, for a purpose.
The first encounter happened at the post office. Despite being surrounded by many people, this man, who did not present the appearance or status of someone “well-to-do” and may have even been mistaken for a vagabond, chose me to help him address and stamp an envelope.
The second encounter occurred more recently, while I was sitting in a McDonald’s, penning some biblical thoughts. Out of nowhere, the same gentleman appeared and asked if he could sit at the table with me. Naturally, I said, “Sure,” and gestured toward the empty seat across from me. Although I wasn’t sure of his motive, I felt reassured knowing that I was not alone in the facility.
With my computer positioned in front of me, he looked at what I was doing and remarked that my employer must have me working on a Sunday. I explained that I was actually writing down some thoughts God had given me for an article to be submitted to a local newspaper.
Truthfully, I was curious as to why he chose to sit with me and not with anyone else. Hoping to discern his motive, I said, “The Lord is so good.” He immediately responded, “Yes, He is.” He continued, “If you ask God for what you want, He will give it to you. We have not because we ask not.”
But he did not stop there. He went on to share how the Lord had blessed him and provided what he needed to survive. Regardless of what his outer appearance revealed, his heart was full of gratitude. He may not have appeared to have much, but he was truly thankful.
After our conversation ended, I was encouraged and reminded to be grateful for what I have, rather than worrying about what I do not. A grateful heart recognizes that God is our provider. He is the giver of every good gift. Ultimately, He gave us the greatest gift of all-His Son, Jesus Christ, and through Him, we have eternal life.
