As a little girl and even an adult, it has been my desire to learn how to swim. I have been invited to several homes that had some of the most beautiful swimming pools. However, because I was afraid to swim, I would not go near either one of them.
One past summer when my daughters and I were visiting my sister during their teenage years, my sister insisted that they get in the pool and learn how to swim. In that moment, I could see the fear in their eyes. Nevertheless, they obeyed my sister’s request and got in the pool. They were confident in attempting to swim in the shallow area of the pool, but their confidence level reduced when my sister transported them to the deep end of the pool. Interestingly they learned a few basic techniques of swimming but more importantly they gained a level of confidence while learning.
Without a doubt, I believe that if they were thrown into a pool or an ocean of water, they would have a chance of survival due to some confidence gained from the experience that day. As for me, if no one came along to rescue me, I would drown.
In this message for today, the question to ponder is, “How will you survive in an ocean of struggles? Have you learned to swim? Or have you given up and began to drown because you lack the confidence to survive?
I had confidence in my sister that day and knew that if my girls were about to drown, she was willing and able to save them. In like manner, God is willing and able to save us in our ocean of struggles. There are two ways we can prepare for survival in an ocean of struggles. 1) Consistently read and study the Word of God and 2) Remain constant in prayer with God.
Persons must build up their spiritual man with consistent study of the Word and prayer. This will help you find the strength and endurance when trying to survive an ocean of struggles.
When struggles come and you need a friend, God is there to guide you to safety. Call on the name of the Lord in prayer. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10).
So, when our oceans of struggles are present in our lives, we do not have to drown. Even though we are not the best swimmers, Jesus is there to help us swim. “Jesus is always there to help us survive our ocean of struggles.”
