Inmate says cops sent him to federal court to bypass Judge Jefferson

Editor’s Note:

The following is a letter from an inmate. The opinions given are his own and have not been verified by our publication.

Dear Editor;

This letter I am sending is more proof that the Honorable Larry Jefferson is not the person to blame for gang violence or the increase in crimes in Monroe, La.

Not only am I aware of these facts, but the honorable Judge Marcus Hunter is also fully aware of who is really to blame.

I have facts that prove that it is other judges, assistant district attorneys, and Monroe City Police Department officers who are violating the U.S. Constitution with no regard for black rights. They want Judge Larry Jefferson to disregard constitutional rights and violate the 4th, 5th,6th, and 14th amendment rights of Black men.

Judge Larry Jefferson is not to bame. It’s the crooked judges who sign warrants without probable cause, district attorneys who maliciously prosecute cases, and Monroe Police Department officers who target, harass, and conduct illegal drug investigations, illegal searches, and seizure and file false police reports.

I can, and I will stand behind Judge Jefferson.

I am one who is a victim of these injustices, and I am being held in violation of my constitutional rights.

I am Derrick Antonio Hall. I have lived at 405 Cedar Street in Monroe all of my life with my grandmother Mary J. Hall. My aunts and uncles are Janet Hall, Linda Hall, Willie James Hall (deceased December 31, 2020), James Alvin Hall, Dexter “Newport” Hall, and my mother, Glenda Hall, who now lives in Houston.

I am seeking help finding an attorney to defend myself against marijuana possession charges and possession of firearm charges that were brought against me by law enforcement officials, the district attorney’s office, and others who colluded to falsify information, search my vehicle without a warrant, and lie during my trial.

I was coerced and persuaded by my attorney to accept a 46-57 month sentence with a promise that he would represent me on appeal. Instead, I was given 108 months in prison, and my counsel withdrew from my case.

Had I gone to Judge Jefferson, I would have received justice. However, they moved my case to Federal Court.

I hope someone will read this letter and help me.
