Eight groups to receive SEDD mini-grants

The Southside Economic Development District (SEDD) has taken a significant step towards revitalizing Monroe’s Southside by awarding $2,000 mini-grants to eight non-profit organizations.

The SEDD, meeting at the Powell Avenue Community Center heard proposals from eight applicants in response to last month’s advertised appeal for ideas. Presentations were made as leaders of both Black Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce listened in the audience.

The initiative, unanimously approved by the SEDD, marks the beginning of a broader community engagement effort to combat crime, drug abuse, and community decay in South Monroe.
